BIRDS AND THE LAW

What you should know!

  •  The Migratory Bird Treaty Act protects all common wild birds except pigeons, house sparrows & starlings

  • This Act makes it unlawful for anyone to kill, capture, possess any bird, including feathers, nests and eggs

  • If a nest has eggs or young birds in it...DON'T MESS WITH THE NEST

  • If you find a baby bird replace it in it's nest

  • A fledgling on the ground is learning to fly and the parent is nearby...LEAVE THEM ALONE

  • Wild birds need help if they are injured, dehydrated, has difficulty breathing, or cannot fly...contact a wildlife rehabilitator

  • It is ILLEGAL to keep wild birds without a permit
